Our curriculum

The Raindrop Cooperative Preschool and Parent/Toddler program uses a hands-on approach that guides children in learning through exploring and experiencing art projects, stories, songs, music, dramatic play, free choice, large muscle movement, games, circle time, and many developmentally-appropriate academic opportunities.

Our organization believes that positive relationships during early childhood, for both parents and children, foster ongoing healthy development and protect childrens' natural delight in learning. At Raindrop Cooperative, families are part of a community of loving parents and caregivers who, together with trained educators, build a nurturing environment that enables children to grow confidently.

Regular activities in the preschool program include:

Letters and Numbers (Alphabetic Principles, Basic Numeracy & Early Literacy): How written symbols are shaped differently to make words and amounts. How letters make sounds that are put together to form words. How different numbers show different amounts.

Shapes, Colors, and Sounds (Visual Arts, Spatial Problem-Solving & Phonetic Principles): How to recognize, differentiate, replicate and design a variety of patterns through verbal and visual matching games, art projects, songs, fingerplays, calendar activities, and more.

Science and Math: How concepts such as counting, sorting objects, estimation and experimentation help us to understand the properties of our world.

Language Skills: How stories, poems, songs, guessing, and dramatic play enrich our lives and extend our communication of our own ideas.

Field Trips: How our local community is here to help us learn! Locations have included: Shaffner Farms Pumpkin Patch, Hedlund Christmas Tree Farm, the Dentist’s office, The Cosmopolis Fire Department, Hoquiam Post Office and many other fascinating destinations.

Regular activities in the parent/toddler program include:

Relationships: One on one interaction between adults, children, and peers in a stable classroom community.

Variety: Child initiated play choices ranging from dramatic play and sensory exploration to block building and large muscle activities.

Introductions: Age-appropriate structured and open-ended art projects and large group segments.

Fun: Games, stories, songs, and other activities tried and tested to enthuse and engage toddlers and young preschoolers.

Resources: A classroom teacher educated in child-development, parents within your child’s class, and the cooperative membership at large, all waiting to know your family and support you in your parenting and your child’s first school experiences!
